Time for 1st Grade Already?!
All I can say is that July 27th seemed WAY too early to start school! Dezi was excited, but also hesitant to start. Excited for his new school, Riverton Elementary, which hosts the ALPS program (advanced learning). Excited that Alma from his soccer team would be in his class. Excited to take his own lunch and eat in the lunchroom. NOT excited that half the greencourt is still out of school and having fun playing beyblades all day. July just seems so early with summer heat and daylight still until 9. I'm not sure which element made the transition the hardest: the new school, the friends and brother that got to play all day, the lack of sleep (hard to enforce bedtime when everyone is still playing outside, not to mention late soccer practice), the homework and fast pace of ALPS, or simply that he went from 3 hours of school to 7 hours.
The good news is that he adjusted. He is happily reading instead of complaining, he has tons of friends to play with at recess and eat with at lunch, his belly doesn't hurt all the time anymore, he has the most advanced spelling list and is still successful (though he beats himself up when we practice and he messes up), and we're working out the kinks of his schedule. Of course, now that we're all adjusted, it is time to go off track :)
