Summer Garden

As the summer garden really got going, we had to spend more and more time to maintain it. We watered every day and I was grateful for the square foot garden method that kept weeds from taking over. Our harvest was the greatest joy as we had plenty of lettuce, carrots, tomatoes, zucchini, herbs, peppers, green beans, potatoes, cantalope, watermelon, onions and yes, even pumpkins. Even when it was work, it was good to get away to the garden and get my hands in the earth. I hope to garden forever. I felt like it grounded me and helped my boys appreciate the food we eat. It will be hard to buy tomatoes from the store again after having a summer of the best, sweetest tomatoes ever!
