San Diego
With Caetano feeling terrible, this was a rough trip. The day before we got to San Diego, we were in HB and Cai was miserable with fever. The plan had been to drive straight from HB to Sea World. We tried it, hoping the animals would cheer Cai up, but we only lasted about 3 hours. With some intense mathematics, it was just enough time to see all the shows we wanted to see. We rushed to the Marriott (thank you, priceline) for naptime. That evening, Ryan took Dezi to the family BBQ at Anna's house. Staying stuck in the hotel room was the last thing Cai wanted to do so I did a lot of exploring with him around the hotel.
The next day, Grandma and Grandpa watched Cai (they were staying at the same hotel) so we could take Dezi and William (one of their cherished students from China) to Sea World. We went to all the exhibits, but the hands on ones were the best. Dezi even got to feed a ray right off his hand. At about 1pm, we gave William instructions on how to see all the shows and we went our separate ways. Ryan dropped Cai and I at the Marriott and took Dezi to meet up with the Dovers on the beach. I hear Dez and Trav had a great time together. When the boys got back, we walked to a nearby mall for dinner. The food court overlooked an ice hockey rink, which Dezi thought was the coolest. It's no surprise that he cheered for the blue team.
The reception was at a yacht club on Mission Bay. It was a beautiful location. We arrived late because we ended up doing shifts with Earl and DeeAnn. They went to the beginning and we went to the end. We'd planned on a professional sitter, but with Caetano feeling so sick, we didn't think that was fair to leave him with a stranger. I was sad to miss out on part of the reception, but glad Earl and DeeAnn didn't charge us the going rate of $100! It was fun to relax a little and chat with Gigi (we miss you guys!). I felt like Ryan and I kind of missed out on the migling part of the reception, which was too bad, but we did get the chance to hit the dance floor for such classics as Rock Lobster and Tainted Love. We all watched Sea World's fireworks from the deck before heading back to the kids. That didn't leave us much time to sleep before waking up and getting to the San Diego Airport at 5am. For once, it was good to be home. Of course, Caetano's illness retreated that night. I was glad to see it gone, but slightly annoyed it had come just in time to affect the entire trip!
