Old Tucson

Our day at old Tucson was fantastic. Bert pulled a miracle and got free tickets for all of us. It started a little shaky with bees swarming around Dezi, who has developed quite the paranoia after being stung a couple times this summer. Once we escaped the bees, our adventures included an Old West train ride, car ride, carousel ride, and horse ride. We also panned for gold and strolled around the old town, which was used to film several old westerns and some new ones too (OK Corral and Young Guns). We saw a gun fight with Billy the Kid that was a little crazy in hindsight. For someone who doesn't let her kids watch ANY violence, it was interesting to find ourselves watching a live action gunfight. Dezi was really worried about the good guy getting shot. After the show, I had to introduce him to one of the actors, who showed him the bullets they used and explained that he was the guy that got "shot". Once Dezi understood that is was all just pretend, he thought it was really cool. Aside from that performance, we also saw can-can dancers and some cowgirls, where Ryan got to show his dance moves. What adventures! We topped off the day with some old timey pictures where the nice older gentleman let me snap a few pictures while waiting for the ones he took to load. The kids had so much fun! We ended the day by spoiling the kids with some ice cream and snapping one last photo on the wagon. It was quite the perfect day in the Old West.
